Voopoo Argus G3, what changed from the G2 and how the G3 Mini differs
Number three in Voopoo’s Argus G series, the Voopoo Argus G3 turns up in shop listings with two different battery capacities, 1,500 mAh in some and 1,000 mAh in others, plus a Mini version that shares its number but not its spec sheet. Before talking about use, three devices need putting in order, the Argus G2 that came before, the G3 and the G3 Mini, using only Voopoo’s published figures.
Voopoo Argus G3, what changed from the G2
The Voopoo Argus G3 keeps the Argus G2’s 5 to 30 W range, its 0.96-inch colour screen and USB-C charging at 5 V and 2 A. It changes three things, the battery, which grows from 1,000 to 1,500 mAh, the cartridge, which becomes the Top Fill V2 with iCOSM CODE 2.0, and the interface.
On that last point, the G2 offered three distinct power modes (SUPER, SMART and ECO). The G3 shows three themes, Smart, Sport and Music, all built on the same automatic matching of power to the coil. Voopoo also highlights button control for power and an airflow adjustment it describes as smoother.
The G2, G3 and G3 Mini side by side
The three official pages do not cover exactly the same points, but they overlap on what matters. Here is what they give for the TPD kits, whose cartridges hold 2 ml, the most a refillable pod may hold in the UK.
| Feature | Argus G2 | Argus G3 | Argus G3 Mini |
|---|---|---|---|
| Battery | 1,000 mAh | 1,500 mAh | 1,350 mAh |
| Output power | 5 to 30 W | 5 to 30 W | 5 to 30 W |
| Output voltage | 3.2 to 4.2 V | 3.3 to 4.35 V | 3.2 to 4.35 V |
| Display | 0.96-inch TFT screen | 0.96-inch TFT screen | LED light |
| Material | Zinc alloy and PC | Zinc alloy and PC | Aluminium alloy |
| USB-C charging | 5 V, 2 A | 5 V, 2 A | 5 V, 1 A |
| Cartridges in the kit | Top Fill 0.4 and 0.7 ohm | Top Fill V2 0.4 and 0.7 ohm | Top Fill V2 0.7 ohm |
The reading is quick. Between G2 and G3, the gap is the battery and the cartridge generation. Between G3 and G3 Mini, the display, the material and the charging change, and the battery loses 150 mAh.
The battery, the figure that caused the confusion
Retailer listings disagree on the Argus G3’s capacity. The maker leaves no room for doubt, and the range itself explains where the mix-up comes from.
Voopoo rates the G3 at 1,500 mAh and the G3 Mini at 1,350 mAh. The 1,000 mAh figure belongs to the Argus G2 and, before it, to the original Argus G, which was limited to 25 W. A listing that gives the G3 1,000 mAh has borrowed another generation’s number.
Going from 1,000 to 1,500 mAh means half as much capacity again for an unchanged maximum power. It is the main measurable gain the G3 keeps to itself, as the cartridge section shows.
Top Fill V2 cartridge, what is new and what still fits
The V2 cartridge is the change Voopoo promotes most. How far it reaches depends on a rule the brand applies to its whole family of Argus pods.
The V2 keeps the resistances of the first Top Fill, 0.4, 0.7 and 1.0 ohm, and adds iCOSM CODE 2.0. Voopoo credits it with “30-day cleanness” and 100 ml of e-liquid per cartridge, figures that come with no method on the product page.
Above all, Voopoo declares its Argus cartridges compatible with every device in the Argus Pod family, and the list it publishes mixes Top Fill, Top Fill V2 and Snap. The direct consequence is that an Argus G2 also takes V2 cartridges, so a G2 owner gets the new cartridge without changing device.
Voopoo Argus G3 or G3 Mini, two devices under one number
The Mini is not a cut-down G3. Voopoo describes it separately, with a different material, a different interface and different box contents.
The G3 Mini weighs 40.85 g according to Voopoo, in an aluminium alloy body with a Clous de Paris pattern. It shows the charge with an LED light, and its page describes neither a screen nor an adjustment button. The TPD box holds a single 0.7 ohm V2 cartridge, against two for the G3.
The output range is the same on paper, 5 to 30 W. With no screen or adjustment described, nothing on the page says how to pick a precise wattage on the Mini, and at 1 A its charging should take longer than the G3’s.
Who the Voopoo Argus G3 suits
The right choice depends on what you already own. Vaporesso poses the same full-size versus Mini question, which we cover in our Vaporesso Xros 5 Mini versus Xros 5 comparison.
The Argus G3 is aimed at an adult vaper who wants to see and set the power, and to switch between a 0.7 ohm and a 0.4 ohm cartridge depending on the draw. Both come in the box, and Voopoo places the 0.4 ohm at the restricted direct lung end of its chart.
For an Argus G2 owner, the case comes down to the battery, since V2 cartridges already fit the G2. The G3 Mini, finally, suits anyone who prefers a light pod without a screen, supplied with a single resistance.
FAQ
Short answers to the practical questions that often follow a purchase.
Does the Argus G3 fire with a button?
No. Voopoo lists draw activation only. The button is used to set the power and move through the display.
Can the Argus G3 screen be switched off?
Yes. A long press turns the screen on or off, an option Voopoo presents as energy saving.
How long does the Argus G3 take to charge?
Voopoo quotes a full charge in 45 minutes through the USB-C port, at 5 V and 2 A.
What wattage suits each Top Fill cartridge?
Voopoo gives 18 to 30 W for the 0.4 ohm, 14 to 18 W for the 0.7 ohm and 10 to 14 W for the 1.0 ohm, for both V1 and V2.
Is the Argus G3 the newest in the range?
No. Voopoo’s Argus range page already shows an Argus G4 Mini, with a 1,650 mAh battery and a cartridge offering several resistances in one.
Voopoo Argus G3, a generation decided by its battery
Against the G2, the G3 keeps the power, the screen and the charging, and mainly gains a 1,500 mAh battery. Its V2 cartridge is genuinely new, but it benefits the whole Argus Pod family. The G3 Mini, for its part, is a separate device, screenless and simpler. Reading the Voopoo Argus G3 next to its predecessor avoids paying twice for the same cartridge, and it is how the kiosk approaches every launch.
