Drag X PnP-X | not the same thing as PnP X coils

Voopoo sells two things under almost the same name. The Drag X PnP-X is a pod mod from the Knight series, fitted with a pod called PnP-X. The PnP X platform, with no hyphen, is a family of coils and cartridges that arrived later with the Drag X2 and the Drag S2. A search for “X PnP” turns up either one, and ordering the wrong reference when you restock coils means sending a pack back. Voopoo’s own pages are enough to untangle the two.

Drag X PnP-X or PnP X, the short answer

The Drag X PnP-X takes standard PnP coils, the ones from Voopoo’s original PnP platform. PnP X coils only fit PnP X cartridges and tanks, which sit on the Drag X2, the Drag S2 and the newer devices Voopoo lists on its platform page.

The two families do not cross over. Voopoo says so on its PnP X page, which states that the series is not compatible with products from the PnP platform. An owner of a Drag X PnP-X who orders “PnP X” coils ends up with heads that will not go into the pod.

What the Drag X PnP-X kit offered

The kit belongs to the Knight series, which Voopoo released as two devices, the Drag X PnP-X and the Drag S PnP-X. Both share the pod, the chip and the firing modes, and they part ways on power.

The mod and how it is powered

The Drag X PnP-X runs on one external 18650 battery, sold separately, and covers 5 to 80 W. The Drag S PnP-X has a 2,500 mAh built-in battery and tops out at 60 W. Both models charge through a USB-C port at 5 V and 2 A.

The GENE.TT chip runs a SMART mode that recognises the coil fitted and assigns it a wattage, and it remembers the last setting when the pod is removed and put back. Three presses of the fire button switch between three start modes, P, P+A and RBA.

The PnP-X pod

The PnP-X pod fills from the top through a twist cap and takes a replaceable 510 drip tip. Voopoo describes it as an upgrade on its earlier pod, with a decorative metal ring and a more compact anti-leak design. Above all, the brand lists it as compatible with every PnP coil, including the rebuildable PnP-RBA base.

When buying spare pods or cartridges in Britain, any capacity above 2 ml does not apply. UK rules cap refillable tanks and pods at 2 ml, and nicotine e-liquid is limited to 20 mg/ml in bottles of no more than 10 ml, so the TPD version is the one sold here.

Two rows deserve a closer look. The 0.15 ohm PnP-VM6 is listed for the Drag X only, which makes sense because the Drag S PnP-X stops at 60 W, the bottom of that coil’s range. Two coils also share the same 0.6 ohm value, the VM4 aimed at a half direct lung draw and the TM1 designed for a tight one. The value alone is not enough to choose, and the coil’s name matters just as much.

The PnP X platform, a separate generation

Voopoo introduced the PnP X platform in 2023 with the Drag X2 and the Drag S2. In a blog post from November 2023, the brand links it directly to the PnP-X pod launched three years earlier, saying it kept that pod’s flavour qualities while admitting that its consistency and lifespan had been limited.

Why the coils are no longer interchangeable

The PnP X coil uses a new three-stage structure with a dual L-shaped profile, designed to hold back leaks. In the same post, Voopoo openly says it gave up compatibility with earlier devices to get that result. The brand also states that one PnP X coil lasts up to 100 ml of e-liquid, a manufacturer figure that depends on how the coil is used.

PnP X values and the hardware that takes them

The range covers seven values, from 0.15 to 1.0 ohm. Voopoo rates the 0.15 and 0.2 ohm coils for direct lung, the 0.3 ohm for direct lung and restricted direct lung, the 0.45 ohm for restricted direct lung, the 0.6 ohm for restricted direct lung and mouth to lung, and the 0.8 and 1.0 ohm coils for mouth to lung.

On the hardware side, the PnP X MTL and DTL cartridges are side filled and come in 5 ml and 2 ml versions, the 2 ml one being the version for the UK and EU. The Drag X2 ships with the DTL cartridge and 0.15 and 0.3 ohm coils. The PnP X pod tanks have a magnetic 510 base and fit any mod with a 510 connector, which takes the platform beyond the Drag X2 and S2 alone.

Telling which one you have

The name on the box is the safest guide. “Drag X PnP-X” or “Drag S PnP-X” means the Knight series and its PnP coils, while “Drag X2” or “Drag S2” means the PnP X platform.

Without the box, the filling method settles it. The PnP-X pod on the Drag X PnP-X fills from the top through its twist cap, whereas PnP X cartridges fill from the side, which is easy to spot at a glance. Coil names follow the same split in Voopoo’s catalogue, with VM, TM or TR codes on the PnP platform and a plain value after “PnP X” on the newer one.
