Under the Nord name, Smok sells devices from 25 to 80 W and from 1,100 to 3,800 mAh, taking coils from several different families. The Smok Nord 4 sits in the middle of that range, and shops sell its pods without saying what sets it apart from its neighbours. To see what makes it different and which pods it takes, you have to go back to Smok’s pages, model by model.

Smok Nord 4, the Nord that keeps two coil families

The Smok Nord 4 stands out for its two pods, one for RPM coils and one for RPM 2 coils, on a 2,000 mAh built-in battery with a 5 to 80 W range. Among the Nords that still have a page on Smok’s site, only the Nord X shares that RPM and RPM 2 set-up.

The others have moved to other families. Smok pairs RPM 3 coils with the Nord 5 and Nord GT, RPM 4 with the Nord 6, and Nord and LP2 coils with the Nord 50W. A Nord’s number tells you nothing about its consumables, and that is the first point to settle.

The Nord line, according to Smok

Here are the models Smok currently has pages for, sorted by battery capacity rather than by date, since no official release dates are given.

Nord Pro1,100 mAhUp to 25 WNord PRO-Meshed, Nord coils as an optionOne
Nord X1,500 mAh5 to 60 WRPM and RPM 2Two
Nord 50W1,800 mAhUp to 50 WNord and LP2, RPM as an optionTwo, RPM sold separately

Nord GT2,500 mAhUp to 80 WRPM 3One
Nord 63,800 mAh5 to 80 WRPM 4 and Dual Core 0.4 ohmTwo

The Nord 4 and Nord 5 share battery and power but not a single coil. The Nord 4 and Nord X, on the other hand, differ on battery and power yet draw on the same coil families.

Nord 4 pods, what Smok confirms

Compatibility is the question that comes up most, and Smok answers it less clearly than some brands. It helps to separate what the page states from what it leaves open.

Smok publishes several editions of the kit, including an “EU 2ml” edition with two 2 ml pods, the only one whose capacity fits the UK’s 2 ml cap on refillable pods, the others going up to 4.5 ml. The nord 4 RPM pod comes fitted with a 0.4 ohm RPM Mesh coil, which Smok classes as mouth-to-lung at 25 W. The nord 4 RPM 2 pod carries a 0.16 ohm RPM 2 Mesh coil, classed as direct lung, from 25 to 50 W with 40 W recommended.

Smok names its pods after the model, nord 4 RPM, nord X RPM, nord 50W RPM. On the Nord X page, it states that those pods take all RPM and RPM 2 coils. None of its pages, however, says that a Nord X or Nord 50W pod fits the Nord 4, and its compatibility guide covered only Novo pods when we read it.

Voopoo takes the opposite approach by declaring its cartridges compatible across a whole family, as we explain in our Voopoo Argus G3 breakdown. For the Nord 4, the cautious rule is to buy pods marked Nord 4, fitted with the RPM or RPM 2 coils Smok installs in them.

What sets the Nord 4 apart from the Nord X, 5 and 6

Three neighbours serve as reference points, each for a different reason. The Nord X shares its coils, the Nord 5 its battery, and the Nord 6 shows where Smok has taken the range.

Against the Nord X

Same two-pod system, but a 1,500 mAh battery, power capped at 60 W and an IP67 rating that Smok highlights, with immersion for 30 minutes between 15 cm and 1 m. The Nord X weighs 96 g, the Nord 4 115 g.

Against the Nord 5

Same battery and power, but a single pod for RPM 3 coils (0.15 ohm from 40 to 80 W, 0.23 ohm from 20 to 45 W), a stepless airflow slider and a 0.69-inch OLED screen. The Nord 5 weighs 107 g, 8 g less than the Nord 4, which sets its airflow with two side rings.

Against the Nord 6

Smok moves to 3,800 mAh, a 1.65-inch touchscreen and RPM 4 coils, with a second Dual Core 0.4 ohm pod. The Nord 6 weighs 145 g, 30 g more than the Nord 4.

The Nord 4 in the hand, what the dimensions say

Smok publishes its own size comparison between the Nord 4, the Nord 50W and the Nord 2, and it shows the Nord 4 as the largest of the three.

The Nord 4 measures 104.9 × 33.7 × 24.4 mm, against 98 × 32 × 23.9 mm for the Nord 50W and 95 × 30.5 × 20 mm for the Nord 2. On the Nord X page, Smok gives the Nord 2 a 1,500 mAh battery, a 1 to 40 W range and a weight of 79 g.

That size comes with an OLED display, an up and down adjustment control and USB-C charging capped at 1.4 A. The Nord 4 is closer to a small adjustable pod mod than to a pocket pod.

Who the Smok Nord 4 suits

The Nord 4 keeps a specific appeal, tied to its consumables more than to its power figures. Three profiles emerge.

It suits an adult vaper who wants to move between mouth-to-lung and direct lung on one device, simply by swapping pods. It also suits someone who already uses RPM or RPM 2 coils, on a Nord X for example, and wants to stay with those families.

Anyone who wants RPM 3 or RPM 4 coils and a single pod will look at the Nord 5, Nord GT or Nord 6 instead. That choice shapes your coil purchases for the life of the device.

FAQ

The practical points Smok’s page covers and shops rarely repeat.

How do I fill a Nord 4 pod?

Take the pod out of the device, pull out the rubber plug on the filling port, add the e-liquid, press the plug firmly back and refit the pod. Smok advises waiting a few minutes for the cotton to soak before the first draw.

How much does the leather Nord 4 weigh?

Smok gives 125 g and 24.8 mm thickness for the leather series, against 115 g and 24.4 mm for the patterned series.

What protections does Smok list for the Nord 4?

An 8-second cut-off on continuous firing, short-circuit protection and low-voltage protection.

What resistance range does the Nord 4 accept?

From 0.15 to 2.50 ohm according to Smok, with an output voltage of 0.5 to 4.0 V.

Does the Nord 4 charge over USB-C?

Yes. Smok lists a USB-C port and a charging current of up to 1.4 A, without quoting a charging time.

Smok Nord 4, a Nord chosen by its coils

In a range where each model changes coil family, the Nord 4 is one of only two that take both RPM and RPM 2, with the battery and power of the Nord 5. Its pods remain specific to the model, since Smok announces no cross-compatibility. Before buying a Smok Nord 4, the useful question is which coils you already own, rather than which number is on the box.
